Don't Count On the Opportunity Of A Second...Live in Your First Chance
You know that feeling when you get goosebumps?
That’s how I felt this weekend after I listened to a story of heartache, strength, struggle, determination, and sheer will.
On his way to the Golden Gate Bridge he was crying and just waiting - wanting - for someone to stop him and ask just a few simple questions:
1. How are you?
2. Are you okay?
3. Can I help?
He just wanted the internal and mental pain to stop and was ready to do what it took…
Kevin Hines was blessed with another chance at life, the instant he jumped off this monumental bridge, he regretted the choice to do so. But the Lord had other plans for him - he survived the fall, he survived the freezing waters, he survived the circling marine life circling under him (which was actually a sea lion keeping him afloat).
Surviving this plunge gave him a second chance at life, but it didn’t end his struggles - he went on to be committed to a psychiatric ward ten times after this life-changing event. The attempt at his own life didn’t automatically stop his pain and inner battle, but it did spark a desire for change.
Fortunately, he was able to find out that the acute pain he was in would stop and it would get better, but not without the hard work to get there. Kevin found out that he had to be ready to put in the effort and he also knew he had others to lean on for help.
There are two big lessons that we can glean from a lifetime of struggles that Kevin went through:
— Be a helper. Keep your eyes open to the hurt, pain, and silent cries for help around you; talk to people with genuine words and open ears.
— If you are struggling or in pain don’t keep it inside. Seek help and put the work in to feel better. It DOES pay off.
I give mad props to all of the warriors who continue to take on the battles because they know there’s a life worth living 100%. The courage, the strength, the resiliency, the relentless pursuit of more in life - those that do not give up.
We remember those who didn't get a second chance...
May we all be so inspired to live our best lives every day. ❤️
With Love,
Brianne
