Intentional Motivation
The Motivation That’s Really NOT Lost
Can you believe that sometimes I lose my motivation?? LOL, yes, I definitely have those lulls in energy, feelings of not being productive, and being stuck - lost in the decisions of what to do next… The list can go on and on that speaks to my human weaknesses!
Fortunately, I don’t acquiesce - I refocus, leave behind the unfruitful thoughts, reestablish the missing habits and find ways to get those sparks of motivation alive again.
We’ve probably all said it, “I lost my motivation”, “I just don’t have that drive to do more,” or “My energy is just GONE!”
When this happens, we get a small feeling of frustration (quickly) accompanied by a larger feeling of complacency - since we don’t want to face any guilt... We give up, it’s just not in us, it’s easier to give in than to struggle through... (Ugh, big *sigh* 🤷♀️)
THE TRUTH IS, we haven’t lost our motivation or our desire; more so, we LOST THE HABITS of the behaviors tied to the subject we are motivated by.
For example: We stop working out (habit), and we “forget” how good it makes our bodies and minds feel (motivation). When we exercise (habit), we remember again the mind and body benefits we receive from doing it (motivation).
When I feel like I “lost my motivation”, this is what I’ve found:
So what do I do?
When you write your mission statement down it inspires you and sets a little fire inside you that motivates you to live your best life. If you don’t have your mission statement yet, put it on the top of your priority list!
Then I look at my goals. Am I on track? Have I lost focus? What can I do to keep moving along with the goals I set for myself? It takes purposeful time and attention, but doing that, pays back amazing dividends!
Let me talk about that last point a little bit. The mission statement for our life and the goals we set are the roadmaps and mini-milestones in our journey of life. If you take your eyes off of the map and don’t know what the route is, you are going to have an awfully hard time getting to where you want to go. The more often you check your map, check your mission, and revisit & work towards your goals, the quicker and more assuredly you will get to where you want to go.
You don’t lose your motivation, you lose touch with practicing the habits that keep you feeling motivated and feeling clear and confident in the choices you make in the life you live.
What habits do you need to reconnect with, and how will you do that?
What motivations will these stir?
How will these habits keep you feeling motivated and alive?
Never doubt your abilities or your potential - you just might need a little redirection and refocus in your habits to keep your fire of motivation burning strong.
You got this!
