20 Ways To Be Kind - Just Because

20 Ways To Be Kind: Just Because “You Know Who’s Going Through A Lot Right Now? Literally Everyone, Just Be Kind.”

I’ve seen this quote going around social media by storm lately, and why is it so popular? Probably because it’s an entirely true statement.

The stressors of work, family, and life build up quickly and lead us to experience mental and physical stress. Anxiety, racing thoughts, shortness of breath, fear, depression, doubt, sleep issues, and the list goes on… (BTW, did you read my blog 4 Ways to Take on Stress & Anxiety?) We ALL have things going on right now.

→ Some struggles are publicly known. Others fight private battles that nobody will ever know about.

→ Whether you are a child, teen, young adult, adult, or senior citizen you can have ‘a lot’ going on right now.

→ Whether you are male or female you can have ‘a lot’ going on right now.

Imagine if we ALL did one more kind thing a day - that would be over 300 million MORE kind acts in our country each day! When someone does something kind to you, how do you feel? Probably better! And when we feel better, we are more productive, more generous, more pleasant to be around, more patient, more loving. The ripple effect that kindness can have on others is really no joke.

ALSO amazing is the breadth of possibilities where kindness can be practiced in. So whether you are at home, at work, at the store, in a social situation, or even online - here are some tips for each situation that can help you spread the seeds of kindness.

Home

#1. Acknowledge what others do around the house. A “good job mowing the lawn!” or a “supper was delicious tonight!” can go a really long way to help them feel loved and appreciated.

#2. You know the work you just acknowledged? Yep, offer to do it sometimes. Even though they do a good job, having a helping hand can go a long way, and even if they don’t accept the help, the fact you offered can oftentimes mean the world.

#3. Don’t forget Fido. Even our pets need some loving too, and the more they are loved on the more you feel the love back.

#4. Take some time for yourself. Yes, my friend, do something kind for yourself just as you’d do something kind for others. Go for a walk instead of doing laundry, make yourself a fancy drink, sit outside and enjoy an extra 10 minutes of sunshine - whatever it is that makes you feel good.

Work

#5. Bring in a treat to share - is it true that the fastest way to someone's heart is through their stomach??

#6. Leave an uplifting card for a coworker for *no reason other than to be kind!

#7. Talk in a warmer tone - it’s easy to get caught up in all the busyness of work - and our voice tones can oftentimes reflect that. Slow down and convey a kinder persona and see what’s reflected back to you.

#8. Compliment a coworker on a job well done or point out how they handled a tough situation with professionalism - some reassurance can go a long way to boost their confidence to do it again.

At the Store

#9. Pay it forward and buy the coffee for the person behind you in line. (It’s not a cliche thing to do - have you ever had it done for you or have done it for others? It’s awesome!)

#10. Ask the cashier how they are doing while looking them in the eye (but don’t be creepy about it!) - show them you care and are genuinely listening.

#11. Leave a kindness rock (a stone with a happy word painted on it) on a shelf somewhere for someone to find.

#12. Help a stranger - maybe you can help someone reach something on the shelf or help someone find something they’re looking for.

In a Social Situation

#13. Make a point of learning and saying the name of the person you’re talking to - this kind and personal connection will be noticed and appreciated!

#14. Ask genuine questions and genuinely listen! You know the feeling when you have a conversation but it is 1-sided since the other person is only focused on themselves? Yeah, it stinks. Don’t be like that.

#15. Tell a joke! Good or bad, we all can use a little more humor in our lives!

#16. Help. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are - offer to help and that kindness will be noticed and go a long way.

Online

#17. Share a little love and support for your pals - drop a ❤️ and an uplifting comment.

#18. Send out a random message once in a while to let a friend know you’re thinking about them.

#19. Support your local businesses by giving them some great reviews and referrals.

#20. Don’t get sucked into the toilet of negativity that can go on - rise above!

These are just a few ideas that you can try in a few of life’s different arenas...

The bottom line is to just be more aware of the opportunities that come your way where you can brighten the day of someone else. Even if you’re having a bad day, maybe you’ll find yours a little bit better after scattering some kindness.

(Spoiler alert: you will feel better ❤️).

In A World Where You Can Be Anything, Be Kind.
